The 2024 Olympic Schedule

Team USA stars such as Simone Biles and LeBron James have made waves since the Olympic Games kicked off Saturday, competing in 32 events across various sports disciplines. Follow along as these athletes make history!

Women’s artistic gymnastics comprises four core events — beam, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise – which NBC and Peacock will cover live during Biles’ competition.

Opening Ceremony

The 2024 Olympic Games opened in Paris with an unprecedented ceremony held outside a stadium and along the Seine River, and included traditional elements like athlete parade. Mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel performed a new version of national anthem and Gendarmerie noncommissioned officers raised Olympic flag.

This ceremony also honored filmmakers the Lumiere brothers and Georges Melies, as well as imagery research. Finally, there was an underwater scene featuring Minions from Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise hosting various sporting events while submerged.

Lady Gaga and Celine Dion both performed, while Aya Nakamura, France’s most-listened-to French singer, danced alongside members of France’s Republican Guard. Haiti was represented by an delegation floating down the Seine. As in other crisis-stricken nations, Haitian representatives could only send some members; those that did come represented Haiti with pride; Creole and French national anthems were played throughout, followed by “Au revoir!” echoing along its watersway.

Group Phase

The group phase features a round-robin format, with each team playing each other twice within its group. At the conclusion of each group round-robin round, only the top two finishers plus two best third-place teams advance to quarterfinals.

Japan got off to an impressive start in men’s soccer on Wednesday by dismantling Paraguay 5-0 in Group D’s opening match, featuring goals by Alexandre Lacazette and Michael Olise in a dominant win that will leave Paraguay scrambling to find ways to increase its negative goal differential.

U.S. women’s national soccer team will make its Olympic debut Thursday against Zambia in Nice. After that, the Matildas will face Germany on July 28 and Australia on July 31 in Group B matches; North Carolina standouts Emily Fox and Crystal Dunn will start every game for America while Simone Biles returns for gymnastics competition; LeBron James and his teammates take on Serbia in basketball match-up; plus much more action across tennis, cycling and more!

Final Phase

LeBron James and the United States men’s Olympic basketball team will start group play against Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic of Serbia at 11:30 am ET Sunday from the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille – approximately two hours outside Paris – at 11: 30 a.m ET. It will be broadcasted live by NBC and Peacock.

On Sunday, the USA women’s soccer team will face Germany in a crucial group B showdown that could decide the outcome. After winning their opening game 3-0 over Zambia on Thursday night, while Germany easily dispatched Australia 5-0 earlier that same evening.

Olympic Champions of both Tokyo 2021 silver medalist Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee will compete for gold, with Biles expected to take home her sixth all-around title; teammates Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles joining them as US team veterans with Olympic experience. Adam Peaty seeks another three golds in men’s 100m breaststroke while Katie Ledecky vies for six titles in women’s 400m freestyle swimming events.

Medal Events

Now that the opening ceremony has come and gone, Olympic athletes are getting down to work in Paris. Competitors in all 20 events will keep viewers riveted throughout 19 days of high-impact sporting action as specific teams and Olympians try to make Olympic history.

On Saturday, the medal events kick off, starting with rugby sevens between South Africa and France and fencing bouts featuring women’s individual epee and men’s individual sabre events – with Katie Ledecky of Team USA competing in swimming while Simone Biles will attempt to qualify for her second final event as gymnast Simone Biles vies to reach it as well as Team GB competitors competing in cycling road, judo skateboarding and fencing as well as badminton group play for men’s, women’s, mixed doubles.
